Regulation of transport processes and identification of transporters with novel functions
Functional protein levels are controlled at the transcriptional level
as well as at the post-translational level though protein inactivation
(de/phosphorylation), targeting or turnover. In other organisms, components
regulating these processes have been identified. We are currently using
yeast mutants deficient in regulating endogenous amino acid permeases
(i.e. inactivation, targeting and degradation) to identify mechanisms
involved in turnover and regulation of the plant permeases and to isolate
the corresponding genes from plants. Furthermore we investigate the role
of several novel transporters with unknown function.
