Regardless of whether you arrive by plane or train, you first have to get to Locarno, the closest town to Ascona.
Travel to Locarno
The closest international airports are Zurich international airport (Switzerland) and Milano Malpensa (Italy). From there you can use public transport to reach Locarno and Monte Verità.
Travel by Swiss Railroad (SBB) from
- Zurich Airport: 3 hours
- Basel (EuroAirport): 4.5 hours
- Geneva Airport 6.5: hours
Travel by train or by bus and train (Malpensa Express Shuttle Bus) from
- Milano Malpensa: 2.5-3 hours
Locarno to Monte Verità
| The shuttle bus for the transfer from Locarno (train station - see map) to the hotel Monte Verità will operate during 4 hours on Sunday afternoon.
It will leave Locarno at around 13.20, 14.00, 14.40, 15.20, 16.00, 16.40, 17.20 h. The shuttle bus sign is posted at the railway station in Locarno - see map. Due to reconstructions at the station of Locarno, the bus is not always waiting at the same place. Look for the white bus with the Monte Verità logo (picture on the right). |

Walking distance from Ascona, Posta is 1 km, altitude difference: 120 m (stairs!!!).
